About the 2025 Lawdragon Leading Energy Lawyers Guide

It’s Boots meats Beltway – with 62 percent of the lawyers on this guide hailing from The Lone Star State or inside the Capital. And, by far, the heart of this Energy 500 beats in Houston, with lawyers who’ve spent their entire lives around oil & gas. They’re joined by infrastructure & project development experts, energy litigators and dealmakers flush with a renewed focus on traditional energy. But fear not, renewable raconteurs remain here in force.

This guide is a particular favorite of ours for many reasons. At Lawdragon we truly do love Texas and appreciate its beautiful counterpoint in legal expertise to New York City and other markets that have drawn significantly more appreciation. In addition, there’s a remarkable confluence of those who work throughout the strata of energy – nuclear, wind, solar, hydropower and of course good old oil and gas.

We also appreciate the remarkable regions from which the Energy 500 hails – including Anchorage, Boise, Santa Fe, Salt Lake City, Oklahoma City, Helena (Mt.) and Denver. And, of course, New York City holds tight as the #3 home for Energy lawyers, thanks to its preeminence in blockbuster billion-dollar deals and trials, as well as global controversies.

We selected The Energy 500 from our well-honed methodology combining independent research, peer discussion and a bustling nomination platform – made possible by our improved submission protocol. (And made even easier by those who we are grateful have supported our Enhanced Nomination Platform, which offers custom nomination portals.)

In this ‘day and age,’ as they say, we’ve decided to permanently track the inclusion in our guides in dedicated ‘fact trackers’ that we will soon publish regarding each guide alongside their methodology.

This is our fourth edition of The Energy 500, which will be joined with a Global edition in 2026It was first published as part of The Lawdragon 500 Leading Environmental & Energy Lawyers in 2021. The Environmental portion of that guide also has its dedicated standalone platform now, The Lawdragon Leading Environmental Lawyers – The Green 500.
