Gibbs & Bruns partner Kathy Patrick is named in Benchmark‘s special guide: Top 250 Women in Litigation. Kathy is recognized for her robust securities practice in the directory:
In terms of women who focus their practices largely on securities, Kathy Patrick of Houston litigation boutique Gibbs & Bruns is deeply respected by both sides of the securities bar for her work in recouping funds for institutional investors in multibillion-dollar suits against financial organizations. “Kathy’s a pain in our collective butt, yes, but she’s an amazing trial lawyer,” says a litigator at a high-profile securities defense firm.
Arguably her highest-profile matter was her obtaining in June 2011 an $8.5 billion settlement on behalf of 22 investors including BlackRock and PIMCO against Bank of America in connection with the bank’s Countrywide residential mortgage-backed securities. In March 2013, in federal court at the Southern District of New York, she won for clients a $400 million settlement with Credit Suisse Securities in the National Century Financial Enterprises (NCFE) litigation.
Patrick’s courtroom successes have not gone unnoticed. Among her many accolades include Benchmark Litigation’s “Female Litigator of the Year-South” award in 2012 and 2013 and Euromoney Legal Media Group’s overall “Outstanding practitioner” award at the 2013 Americas Women in Business Law Awards.
