HOUSTON, April 1, 2008 – The Anti-Defamation League – Southwest Region presented Robin Gibbs of Gibbs & Bruns the 2008 Karen H. Susman Jurisprudence Award. The Jurisprudence Award, established in 1987, is presented annually to “an outstanding lawyer who exhibits a commitment to equality, justice and fairness, as well as community service.” Mr. Gibbs received the award at an ADL-hosted luncheon on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Houston before a crowd of 800 attendees.

Mr. Gibbs has over 37 years of experience in handling high-stakes business and commercial litigation matters for plaintiffs and defendants. He began his career in 1971 with Vinson & Elkins. In 1974, he formed Wood, Campbell, Moody, & Gibbs, P.C. and built the firm’s trial group. Gibbs & Bruns (formerly Gibbs & Ratliff) was established in 1983. Under Mr. Gibbs’s guidance, the firm focused on high-stakes commercial litigation and quickly garnered a reputation for its high-profile trial docket and its representation of plaintiffs and defendants. Mr. Gibbs is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is an Advocate in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and is the current President of Houston’s ABOTA chapter. He is also a member of The American Law Institute and serves as President of the Houston chapter of the International Network of Boutique Law Firms. He is a Member of the Texas, American, and Houston Bar Associations, and he is a Fellow of the American and Texas Bar Foundations. Mr. Gibbs served on the Executive Committee of The University of Texas Law School Alumni Association, and he was President of The University of Texas Law Review Association.
In the civic realm, Mr. Gibbs is a committed advocate of Memorial Hermann’s Life Flight; serves on the board of directors of Texas Appleseed; and is a long-time supporter of Communities in Schools, the Houston Symphony, SEARCH, the Anti-Defamation League, Child Advocates, and The Alley Theatre. He also established the Chenailles Refuge in Costa Rica with philanthropic partner Marynell Maloney through which they operate a regional environmental education program for children of all ages.
