ROBIN GIBBS HONORED WITH TEXAS LAWYER’S LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Texas Lawyer has honored Gibbs & Bruns LLP’s founding partner Robin C. Gibbs with its 2017 “Lifetime Achievement Award.”

This award is presented as part of Texas Lawyer’s annual “Professional Excellence Awards.”  Profiles of the honorees will be published in the September issue of Texas Lawyer magazine and a special ceremony was held in Dallas on September 6, 2017.

About Robin Gibbs

As the editor of The Texas Lawbook put it, “Long before Steve Susman, David Beck, Mike McKool and Mike Lynn left big law firms to start their own litigation boutiques, there was Robin Gibbs.”  Dubbed “The Father of the Litigation Boutique in Texas” by the same publication, Robin’s career as a trial lawyer in Houston spans over forty years.  And time has not impeded the pace of this consummate professional – Robin still relishes advocating for his clients and remains in the throes of full-time practice.

Robin has previously shared about his love of trial law:

It provides an opportunity for you to be the producer, the director and one of the chief protagonists in the presentation of the production, which is a trial. It provides tremendous intellectual stimulus, obviously, and of course it provides plenty of excitement and risk because at the end of a trial, a jury is going to come with a verdict and there’s going to be a winner and there’s going to be a loser. It really combines, from my point of view, the best of all things that any profession or business opportunity has to offer.

As founder of Gibbs & Bruns, a boutique renowned for its signature lean trial teams and representation of both plaintiffs and defendants, Robin has mentored an enviable succession of talented trial lawyers who have, in turn, churned out a track record of high-value and precedent-setting work across the banking, energy, technology, and financial services sectors, among others.  Robin and Gibbs & Bruns’ successes for clients are certainly a factor in Robin’s being awarded this Lifetime Achievement honor; however, perhaps a more poignant reason lies in Robin’s utmost dedication to preserving the principles of civility and objectivity in the profession.

Robin is regarded by clients, peers and judges alike as a shining example of professionalism.  The Texas Bar Foundation honored Robin with the 2017 Ronald D. Secrest Outstanding Trial Lawyer award.  This exclusive award is reserved for an active trial lawyer who “has demonstrated high ethical and moral standards and has demonstrated exceptional professional conduct, thus enhancing the image of a trial lawyer.”

Robin’s imprint on Texas and the lifetime love of the law is underscored by his steadfast dedication to The University of Texas Law School, his alma mater, where he currently serves as Chair of the UT Law School Foundation.

For those who understand the practice of law as a noble profession, we can only wish that when people hear the work “trial lawyer” that they imagine a lawyer with the character and skill of Robin Gibbs.
